Annette Perkins

June 17, 1919 — September 10, 2014

Annette Perkins, the daughter of Harry George and Madeline C. (VanRossum) Quick, was born June 17, 1919, in Baltimore, Maryland and died September 10, 2014, at her home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 2 months, and 23 days.
Annette was baptized and confirmed at a Lutheran Church in Baltimore. She attended school in Baltimore then graduated from the High School in Kingsville, Maryland. Annette was employed at the Edgewood Arsenal in Maryland where they produced gas masks and other protective devices. She worked there through World War II.
While working at the arsenal, Annette met Willard Sewell. Later they were united in marriage. They lived in Kingsville and Annette was employed at Montgomery Wards. Willard became ill and died. Annette continued to work at Wards for a short time. She then was hired by the State of Maryland as a toll collector at one of the many toll roads in the area. Eventually she was promoted to the position of Supervisor which she held until she retired after being there for over 20 years. Annette enjoyed travelling especially to the many exotic places where her sister Julia and husband James Perkins were stationed. She also enjoyed traveling in Mexico.
On September 13, 1986, she married James H. Perkins at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. They liked traveling, but Annette just enjoyed being at home and entertaining guest.
Annette was a member of the Ebenezer Lutheran Church west of Audubon and was active in the Women of the Church. She was an avid reader and had a huge collection of books. In her later years she enjoyed watching the television especially the Lawrence Welk Show and Dancing with the Stars always making sure to call in and vote for the best dancers.
Annette was preceded in death in addition to her first husband Willard Sewell by; her son James R. Perkins; her sister Julia Perkins; and her brother Harry G. Quick, Jr.
Survivors include her husband James H. Perkins of Audubon, Iowa; her children Keith and wife Resa Perkins of Silver Springs, Maryland, Jayne and husband Fred Gibson of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Joel and wife Melissa Perkins of Nevada, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Sylvia Perkins of Audubon, Iowa; 13 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Mary Quick of Baltimore, Maryland; her brother-in-law Richard and wife Martha Perkins of Norphlet. Arkansas; nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
