Steven Ray Anderson

Steven Ray Anderson, the son of James Owen and Laurine Ann (Jensen) Anderson, was born December 25, 1952 at Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away at his home in Massena, Iowa on February 19th, 2018, at the age of 65 years, 1 month, and 24 days.
Steve was baptized at the Exira Christian Church in Exira. He attended the Exira Community Schools graduating with the High School Class of 1971. In 1975 he received his bachelor’s degree in agriculture and business from Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri.
On November 22, 1975, he was united in marriage to Jackie Hartley at the Exira Christian Church, Exira, Iowa. Steve and Jackie were blessed with the birth of a son, Michael (Mike), in 1984 and a daughter, Katherine (Kathy), in 1988.
Steve spent most of his adult life farming. He loved getting out on the tractor; cultivating, planting and seeing the new crops come in. He also raised hogs.
Steven was active as an elder at First Christian Church in Exira. His church family and his faith meant a lot to him. He liked to work on computers with his son, Mike. He enjoyed going out to eat. He was a big fan of the Iowa State Cyclones and really loved going to VEISHEA and attending football games. Late summer always found him and the family at the Iowa State Fair. He loved his kids and spending time with his grandkids.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents Raymond and Mary Anderson and Jens and Hilda Jensen.
Steve is survived by his children: Michael (Katie) Anderson, Omaha, Nebraska and Katherine (Andrew) Sorensen, Shelby, Iowa; three grandchildren: Sadey, Brett and Alyssa Sorensen all of Shelby, Iowa; his parents: James Owen Anderson and Laurine Ann (Jensen) Anderson of Des Moines, Iowa; his sisters: Linda (Jerry) Glazier, Kansas City, Missouri and Kay Anderson, Apple Valley, Minnesota; his nephew: Christian Glazier, Kansas City, Missouri; other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Glen Meyers on Saturday morning March 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Exira Christian Church in Exira, Iowa. The family will meet with friends Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Exira Christian Church.
