Vera Maurine Nielsen

Vera Maurine Nielsen, the daughter of Louie and Marie (Jensen) Baier, was born January 30, 1922, at her parents’ home in Exira Township Audubon County, Iowa and died July 18, 2016, at the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa at the age of 94 years, 5 months, and 18 days.
Vera was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. She attended Exira Community Schools and rural schools. She then helped on the family farm.
On March 9, 1938, Vera was united in marriage to Arnold Nielsen at the Lutheran Parsonage in Audubon, Iowa by Pastor Hagedorn. They were blessed with two sons Larry and Duane. They farmed around the Exira area for over ten years before purchasing a hog buying business. During this time Vera was a home maker and took care of the boys and Arnold. Arnold died on July 22, 1992. Vera lived in her home until she moved to the Exira Care Center in Exira, Iowa in October of 2011.
Vera was a member of the Exira Lutheran Church. She was a member of a neighborhood club the U-Z-Rite Club for over 27 years. Family was most important to Vera. She loved her family so much and was always glad to be with them.
Preceding her in death were her husband Arnold Nielsen; her son Duane Nielsen; her parents; her sisters Katherine and husband Ejner Jensen and Anna Marie and husband Arthur Boldt; her brother Norman Baier and wife Agnes Baier Cleeland; her other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Survivors include her son Larry and wife Frances Nielsen of Ankeny, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Jeanette Nielsen of Exira, Iowa; her grandchildren Renee and husband Tom Connolly and Jeff Nielsen and special friend Misty Ludwig all of Ankeny, Iowa, Randy Nielsen of West Des Moines, Iowa, Cheryl and husband Rolyn Wetzel of Ankeny, Iowa, Todd Nielsen and fiancée Ellen Hay, Matt Nielsen and fiancée JeenLee McAlpin, and Nathan Nielsen all of Exira, Iowa; her great grandchildren Stephanie and husband Justin Adam of Seattle, Washington, Melissa Nielsen of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, Shelby Nielsen and finance Pheonix Briggs both of Ames, Iowa, Skylar Wetzel, Delaney Wetzel, Karson Wetzel, and Rylie Connolly all of Ankeny, Iowa, and Zoey Nielsen and Zander Nielsen both of Exira, Iowa; her great great grandchildren Gabriel Jacobsen and Azaleah Jacobsen both of Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin and Jane Adam of Seattle, Washington; her special friends Rodney and wife LaVonna Pigg of Phoenix, Arizona, and their children Jenni Osa and family of Glendale, Arizona, and Justin Pigg and family of Omaha, Nebraska; nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Steven Frock on Monday, July 25, 2016, at 10:30 A.M. at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. Interment will be in the Exira Cemetery in Exira, Iowa. The Honorary casket bearers will be Renee Connolly and Cheryl Wetzel. The casket bearers will be Jeff Nielsen, Randy Nielsen, Todd Nielsen, Matt Nielsen, Nathan Nielsen, Tom Connolly, Rolyn Wetzel, and Justin Pigg. The family will meet with friends on Monday morning July 25, 2016, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the Exira Lutheran church in Exira, Iowa.
