Winifred May Gust

Winifred May Gust, the daughter of William and Edith Petersen Moore, was born March 16, 1917, at her parents’ home northeast of Ross, Iowa and died August 28, 2013, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 12 days. Winifred attended the church in Ross, Iowa. She attended rural school northeast of Ross and then was employed as a hired girl for several local neighbors. On March 21, 1936, she was united in marriage to Gordon Gust. They farmed east of Ross for several years and operated other farms in the Audubon County area. Winifred helped Gordon farm where she milked cows, raised chickens, and helped with the farm chores. Gordon died in May of 1966. Winifred lived on the farm for a short time then moved into Audubon. Winifred cleaned houses and several businesses until she retired. She then helped care for her mother. Winifred was a devoted wife, a very loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She enjoyed baking, canning fruits, vegetables, and meats, embroidering, and quilting. She embroidered pillow cases and tea towels which she gave to family members. She loved having friends in for coffee always serving fresh baked goods and cookies. Preceding her death was her husband Gordon Gust; her two infant sons: Ray Gust and Roy Gust; her parents; her brothers: Theodore (Buss) and wife Loretta Moore; John and wife Ruth Moore; and her brother-in-law Donald Gust. Survivors include her sons: Robert and wife Judy Gust of Audubon, Iowa; Dale and wife Cheryl Gust of Templeton, Iowa; her grandchildren: Julie Knutsen of Audubon; Robert M. and wife Carla Gust of Audubon; Maridee and husband Shawn Bohlmann of Audubon; Janelle and husband Scott Goodrich of Grimes, Iowa; Jeanette and husband Brian Cuppy of Ankeny, Iowa; Cami Gust of Des Moines, Iowa; Cara Smith of Monroe, Minnesota; Chay and wife Kennell Gust of Audubon; Coby and wife Jenny Gust of Audubon; her two step grandchildren: Holly and husband Brian Wendl of Willey, Iowa; Michael and wife Jesse Fuchs of Arcadia, Iowa; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; her sister Betty and husband Duane Laughery of Las Vegas, Nevada; her sister-in-law Margaret Gust of Audubon; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa.

Visitation:
The family will meet with friends Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon.

Service:
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 2:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
